Kritunga - The Palegars cuisine
Kritunga claims to serve dishes from the Palegar region of India. The Palegar cuisine is a regional cuisine of India that originated from the Palegar community, who were the rulers of some parts of South India in the past. The cuisine is known for its spicy and flavorful dishes, such as biryanis, curries, kebabs and kormas.
The ambiance was good, but a bit touch of music would have made all the difference. The staff was polite and attentive, but not very knowledgeable about the dishes. They took my order quickly, and it took decent amount of time to be served. The restaurant had a simple and clean interior, with wooden tables and chairs, and some paintings on the walls. The lighting was adequate, but not very bright. The restaurant was not very crowded, but there was a steady stream of customers.
This restaurant suits for casual outing with family or friends.
Chicken Kurkure
The Chicken Kurkure was a plate of deep-fried chicken slices coated with crispy crumbs, sesame seeds, green chilli and ajwain seeds, served with a thick sweet and sour sauce.
The aroma hit me as a crispy chicken, the looks gave me a feeling that they are one of the South Indian dishes made with rice flour called ‘chekkalu‘ and the taste gave me the vibe of eating a ‘bajji‘. I was not impressed by the food, as the chicken was oily and greasy, and the sauce felt artificial and tasted a bit stale. I was told the dish is supposed to be spicy, but it was not. It was more like a bland and boring version of a chicken nugget.
Mughlai Biryani
The Mughlai Biryani was a large bowl of rice cooked with chicken, spices, and scrambled eggs, served with its own Mughlai curry.
The biryani was decent, but not exceptional. The rice was cooked well, but the chicken was dry and tough. The spices were different to the usual ones, but they did not add much flavor or depth to the dish. The eggs were the best part of the dish, as they were soft and fluffy. The curry was also good, but not very spicy. The dish was filling and satisfying, but not very memorable. I liked this dish better than the Chicken Kurkure, but did not love it.
But I want to give this restaurant another go, try out different dishes and come to a stiff conclusion.
